Covid-19 Reopening Policies

Screening of patients, staff and visitors Screening

We will be screening every person entering the office for possible exposure to the coronavirus prior to allowing them to enter. Screening procedures include:

  • Questioning if they have experienced any symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat or loss of taste or smell.

  •  Questioning if they have possibly been exposed to anyone confirmed to have COVID-19 or exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

  • Questioning if they have traveled out of the country or to a known COVID-19 hotspot within the past 30 days.
        

 Performing temperature checks using non-contact surface thermometers. 

  • If any patient or accompanying guardian/caregiver has a temperature > 100° or answers yes to any of the screening questions:

  • Reschedule non-urgent eye care appointments.

  • Refer the patient to a PCP or other healthcare professional for follow-up.

 If any staff member has a temperature > 100° or answers yes to any of the screening questions:

  • Do not permit the staff member to work.

  • Refer the patient to a PCP or other healthcare professional for follow-up.
     

 

High-risk patients

  • Special hours (appointments at the beginning of the work day before noon) of operation exclusively for patients at a higher risk for acquiring the virus or for experiencing more severe consequences of COVID-19, including patients who:

    •  Are age 65 and older

    •  Reside in a nursing home or long-term care facility

    •  Are immunocompromised

    •  Have underlying medical conditions 

    •  Are front-line healthcare workers

 

 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  •  Require all staff members to wear masks when interacting with patients.

  • When scheduling appointments, inform patients they must wear a mask or appropriate cloth face covering upon arrival and at all times while in the office (unless contraindicated due to age, difficulty breathing or other circumstances).

  • Installed breath shields or other physical barriers on diagnostic equipment. 

  • Clean and disinfect reusable PPE in compliance with CDC guidelines.
     

 

Cleaning and disinfecting- Cleaning protocols

  •  We have established internal processes for cleaning and disinfecting all furniture, equipment, products and surfaces throughout the office, after each patient has come in contact with the surface, using solutions recognized by the CDC as being effective against the novel coronavirus.

  • Direct patients and other visitors to wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer immediately upon entering the office.

  • Doctors and staff should wash their hands in view of the patient before and after each patient encounter.

  • Clean and disinfect all equipment and surfaces in patient care areas (including chairs, stools, breath shields and other barriers) after each patient.

  • Whenever possible, leave exam rooms vacant for at least 15 minutes between patients.

  • Clean all public areas and common surfaces (furniture, counters, railings, doorknobs, etc.) multiple times each day.

  • Remove all printed materials (magazines, pamphlets, brochures, business cards, etc.) from public areas.

  • Direct patients and visitors to wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer immediately prior to exiting the office.

 

 

Frame handling

 

  • Disinfect frames every time they are handled by staff or patients. By using our frame sanitization cabinet 

  • Clean and disinfect finished eyeglasses, cases, and accessories before dispensing to the patient.

 

 

 

Pick Up Protocol

  • Provide Curbside Pick Up and Adjustments. 

  • If picking up inside the office the patient must follow the entry guidelines and wear a mask.

  • Implement no-touch payment methods 

  •  Barriers in the payment/front-desk area
